Discover the Permacryl PU and Permacryl XR lacquers from Trimetal. XR stands for EXTRA protection against stains, scratches and skin grease so that your paintwork and your substrate remain in perfect condition. Want to know more about the different products and gloss levels? Scroll down.

How much Permacryl lacquer do I need for my project?

The Trimetal Permacryl line has a standard output of 12-14m² per litre. So with both the 1l primer and 1l topcoat you can paint around 12-14m². Note: it is best to apply two layers of topcoat. So if you have to cover 12m² of surface, you will need 2l of topcoat.

Which permacryl products are for indoor or outdoor use?

Permacryl PU and Permacryl XR products are intended for indoor use. Permacryl on its own is intended for outdoor use as it is synthetic.

Would you like to learn more about the differences between PU and XR lacquers and the gloss levels? Scroll down to our in-depth explanation.

How do Permacryl PU paints differ from Permacryl XR paints?

The big difference is in the skin grease resistance. XR lacquers are protected against hand grease, which PU lacquers do not have. In addition, XR stands for EXTRA protection so they score just a little better than the Permacryl PU lacquers in all areas from washability to scratch resistance. Although these Permacryl PU lacquers are ideal for surfaces you don't often touch, such as your window frames or skirting boards. The Trimetal Permacryl XR products, on the other hand, are extremely suitable for painting wooden banisters and kitchen cabinets.

How do I get started with Permacryl XR paints?

If your surface has never been painted before, apply 1 coat of the XR primer. This is repaintable after 4 hours. This allows you to apply a layer of topcoat on the same day. Here you can choose between a matt, silk-gloss or high-gloss finish. Which one you choose depends on which look you like. The most popular variant is Permacryl XR Satin (silk gloss). It has a subtle sheen, which gives an elegant look. Apply two coats of the topcoat. After 6 hours, the XR lacquer is repaintable. Sand between these coats with a fine grit (P320) for good adhesion.

The Permacryl XR gloss levels explained

XR topcoats are available in different gloss levels. A gloss level determines the appearance of your object/furniture/frame/stairs. With a gloss level you can create depth in your interior, for example, doors and windows are often painted in a silk gloss finish in order to differ slightly from the matt wall paint. Conversely, you can also use the same matt gloss level as your wall so that everything looks the same in terms of gloss and is less noticeable.

Which Trimetal Permacryl paints are for exterior use?

Permacryl Decor Satin Exterior is a new waterborne lacquer paint from Trimetal that can serve as both primer and topcoat. This paint is applied to exterior woodwork.

If you are looking for a Permacryl paint that is suitable for steel, non-ferrous metals or PVC, you can use Trimetal Permacryl Multiprimer. You can apply this as a primer and then paint over it with Permacryl Satin or Permacryl Brillant, a water-based topcoat suitable for outdoors thanks to its moisture-regulating property.
