Frequently asked questions
On which types of wood can Cetol BLX Pro Top be applied?
This stain performs perfectly on cedar and softwood. Please note: do not use this product on exotic hardwoods such as Merbau or Afzelia.
How do I apply this water-based wood protection?
Bare wood should first be primed with one coat of Sikkens Cetol BLX Pro. Afterwards, apply two finishing coats of Sikkens Cetol BLX Pro Top. If the wood has already been stained, a primer coat is no longer required. A stain like BLX Pro Top is best applied with a flat paint brush. Our recommendation: the ProGold Flat Paint Brush 7530, ideal for both water-based and solvent-based stains.
In which colours is BLX Pro Top available?
The four most obvious and popular choices are: 006 Light Oak, 009 Dark Oak, 010 Walnut and 085 Teak. In addition to these wood shades, you can also choose transparent colours from the Cetol Colour Collection. Colours with the letter T at the end of the colour code can be mixed in this transparent BLX Pro Top stain.
Can I order Cetol BLX Pro Top in a colourless version?
This variant does not exist and for a very good reason: a colourless finish offers far too little protection against UV rays. Your wood would therefore suffer from the sun much faster and turn grey. For this reason, it is best to choose a wood shade that closely matches the natural colour of your wood.
